Our Mother From life

It’s done from life, she posed for me while I did the painting at her home there on Thorton Street in Leavenworth, in their dining room. She was used to posing for her sister artist. They looked a lot alike, my mom and my aunt Alice, who moved to London with her art instructor [and husband]. We had to have several sessions because I was slow, but I don’t remember exactly how long it took. She’d get tired of sitting so she’d have to get up and move around. It was probably done about 50 or 55 years ago, so she would have been 55 or 60. Every painting she’d take a picture of. Of course she’d use a polaroid and those don’t hold up very well. I wish I had the ones she took, but I’m sure there’s some she took that I don’t have.

Carolyn showed this picture to Gwen and she said, “That looks like you!”
